The Friends of Red House Ramble oppose the proposed Green Belt housing developments on the fields adjacent to Red House Drive and Beaumont Drive. The plans threaten wildlife, increase flooding risk, adversely impact valued community spaces like The Ramble.
Over the years, volunteers have transformed The Ramble into a well-used, nature friendly space, but maintaining the woodchip path already requires significant effort. The group fears that increased foot traffic from new housing could make upkeep unsustainable.
The area’s clay soil leads to standing water after heavy rain, and volunteers have worked hard to manage this. Further development could reduce the land’s ability to absorb water, worsening conditions on The Ramble.
The granting of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2019 highlights The Ramble’s importance as a community asset and as part of a wider wildlife corridor linking several local green spaces.
We believe the Local Plan threatens this corridor and our ability to support local wildlife and provide a welcoming space for residents.
